Around April 2002 I got back into 40K after a
3-4 year break. I had all of my old models, but the game was all
new, so I thought why not start one of the new armies? So, for
a few months I worked on rebuilding my old armies until the Necrons
were rereleased, and then I started collecting them.
I decided since they were basically sci-fi undead, I'd paint
them in a color scheme to look like skeletons and zombies. I also
didn't care for the transparent green gun inserts, because I wanted
a different color to go better with the bone look. So, I ordered
blue fluorescent rods from Plastruct.
They turned out to be almost clear, so I just added citadel blue
ink over them and smeared it around, and it gave it a really cool
"flowing energy" look, totally by accident :) Plastruct
has a few other colors too, just go to their site and look for
fluorescent rods, the size you want for the Necron guns is 3/32".
You get a lot in a package, 10 rods I think, and you can do 1
whole box of plastic warriors with 1 rod.
I also wanted to try something different and saw a picture on
Dakka Dakka of a destroyer with tomb spider legs. I thought it
was so cool looking, that I decided to do all of my destroyers
that way. Also my heavy destroyers were converted more by adding
a Wraith's tail to the back, with his Gauss Cannon at the tip,
and claws from the Dark Eldar Talos, now he's a really evil sci-fi-undead
scorpion-centaur. Looks really menacing on the battlefield :)
I named my Necron army "The Wicked" based on the song
Birth of the Wicked from Iced Earth. The song describes an ancient
race that hides among men plotting their doom, which kind of reminded
me of the C'tan :)
As much as I enjoyed building this army, I recently decided to sell it. In March a nice fella from Denmark paid a whole lot for them :) So, I don't have them anymore but I'm keeping the pics here still to show the work I did :)
